As I was listening to a workshop by Caroline Myss I was struck by something she was talking about. It had to do with who will we be if we give up a pattern of behavior? I've often asked people that in sessions and it is always interesting to see the reaction.
We spend a lot of our lives in the past. Running patterns from the past that have become a part of who we are in the now moment. We hang onto them because that is how we identify ourselves. We don't know that isn't who we are. That is a conglomeration of who we have tried to be in order to please other people in our lives and to be accepted.
We put out a lot of energy to maintain someone that isn't even an authentic part of who we truly are at the core. Letting go of those patterns can cause fear as that we don't know what to replace it with. What if we aren't accepted for who we are? What if people reject us for being who we are? What if we're alone because of who we are? All these thoughts cross our minds either consciously or unconsciously and create a feeling of discomfort for us. We like to make it harder than it really is to release these feelings. The reality is, that we can let go of it, all we have to do is to choose to let go of it. It is just that simple.
When deciding to make a change, we need to be very clear about what we want to have in our life before embarking on that path. If we don't know where we are headed, we won't know when we've arrived. We tend to live chaotic lives and when we are able to find a more peaceful existence, we don't know what to do with it, so tend to create chaos or drama so that we can go back to what we are used to. This can affect our physical health as well as our mental health.
We forget to be in awe of the life that we have come here to live. Everything around us can be truly magnificent if we are able to see if from that place of who we really are on a spiritual level. We get caught up in the illusion and miss some of the really great parts.
I invite you to spend the next few days just being aware of your surroundings. It's spring, notice all the beautiful flowers and trees that are in bloom, the feel of the sun, smell the air, see what is right in your life, allow yourself to be you and not to worry what others think.
